Abstract. The authors of the article focus on a set of scientific problems related to identifying the specifics of the regional text. The lack of unambiguous criteria for classifying a paper as local and the need for a comprehensive analysis of its features determine the relevance of the research undertaken. Based on the analysis of modern Russian scientific literature and the results of regional text examination carried out in the frameworks of socio-cultural, literary and linguistic approaches, the authors propose universal criteria for classifying a as the regional text. The dual nature of the object under study, which combines both linguistic and non-linguistic characteristics, is shown. Taking this factor into account, the main features (criteria) of a regional text are identified: reflection in its content of specific realia that indicate geographical location, climate, flora and fauna, ethnic composition of the population, historical events, socio-economic and political structure, cultural traditions, etc.; place of creation, author's identity; addressee; the presence of dialectisms and/or regionalisms, local onyms and literary vocabulary used in specific functions. Since these criteria are related to functional and stylistic types of texts, the authors of the article consider the analysis of implementation of these criteria on extended textual material to be a promising continuation of the study.

Key words: regional text, regional identity, regional worldview, regionalism, regional-marked vocabulary, features of a regional text.
