Abstract. The article emphasizes that in recent years there has been a steady growth of scientific interest on the part of the research from different countries in studying the phenomenology of political discourse and its various aspects. The matters related to the methodology of research and theoretical modeling of political discourse, are at the focus of academic community's attention. The need for further development of discourse analysis and the generalization of experience already accumulated in this field is pointed out. In this regard, the article presents an overview of both Russian and international studies, materials of scientific conferences and academic periodicals in which the contribution of individual researchers, various ideological trends and schools to the development of the theory of political discourse and the study of its specific types is summarized. The analysis of publications shows that the Russian and international scientists regularly address the issues of theory, history and methodology of political discourse analysis, which represent current scientific schools and trends of political communication. The article deals with the existing methods and techniques of political discourse research used both in our country and abroad. The proposed generalization is purely preliminary and may only be considered as an attempt to come close to the solution of the task.
