Abstract. The article considers vantage point as a cognitive mechanism for conceptual structuring of a discourse via perspective of cognitive linguistics. It describes purposes, structure of vantage point in talk show discourse as well as language means of the representation. As a result of the analysis of American and Russian entertaining daytime and late-night talk shows it was found that vantage point is based on profiling such components of the discourse content as the information about a studio or channel, time of the discourse interaction, name of a talk show, name of a host, and the summary of a talk show content. The number and configuration of the components is determined by a host of a talk show. Also, it was found that vantage point serves the function of constructing spatial and temporal parameters of a discourse as well as creating special focus on conceptual content in the representation of talk-show discourse, helps viewers to concentrate their attention on this content as well as to know about further content of a discourse. Vantage point in a talk show discourse is marked by nominations, prepositions of location, adverbs with the semantics of present tense, prepositions with the semantics of consecution and additionality.
Key words: discourse, talk-show, subject, discursive organization, cognitive mechanism, vantage point.
