Abstract. The article shows that the colloquial and informal lexemes in the E. Chizhova's works can be characterized by semantic syncretism, and by the presence of several sense components in the meaning structure that are actualized in the context. These lexemes also display wide emotional and evaluative ambivalence. Nominal lexemes show a tendency to form a broader polysemy on the basis of syncretic meaning, verbal lexemes – the tendency of some lexical and semantic variants to "fade" and the transition to expressives. Informal and colloquial nouns are used in the speech of characters in two main functions: the function of speech characteristics of a character that allows authors to convey accurately the conversational intonations of heroines, and the function of the narrative localization, that makes it possible to correlate the depicted events with historical, cultural, and temporal context. Verbal informal and colloquial vocabulary is mainly used in characterizing and expressive function, through which the author draws the reader's attention to the internal state of a speaker. There's a function of author's speech affinity to the speech of characters in the author's narrative that are realized by informal and colloquial verbs. Colloquial and conversational elements allow building the text so that a formal change in the person does not entail a change in the verbal texture of the work and at the same time impart subjective coloring to so-called author's narration, that are stylized to heroines' speech. In general, informal and colloquial lexemes of common usage are reflected in the E. Chizhova's language; they match the modern practice of speech recorded in the lexicographical editions of modern times.
