Abstract. The article deals with the issues of neology and linguoculturology. It gives brief overview of the most important works devoted to the multiaspectual study of neologisms and their classifications. This issue is relevant due to the fact that there is still no general agreement among researchers concerning the linguistic status of neologism. The author of the article applies the linguocultural approach in neology and specifies the criteria of revealing neologisms as culturally-marked new words: chronology, presence of new cultural reference in a word's denotation and connotation, sphere of usage, localisation.
