Abstract. The article features the peculiarities of non-central territory media image objectification in the Russian language, viewed within the framework of the general opposition "centre – non-centre". The authors have distinguished synonymous series of units, which nominate the territory within the right part of the opposition. As a result, the media image of a non-central territory is defined as a hyperonym that includes the hyponymous media images glush, gluhoman', zaholust'e, periferiya, provinciya, glubinka. A number of discursive features are identified. They form a media image of a non-central territory in media texts. Certain patterns in the named features representation within the framework of hyponymous media images are revealed, which in general enables determination of a hyperonymous media image structure. The variety of key linguistic means that constitute the media image of a non-central territory is determined. A conclusion is drawn about the specifics of non-central territory image formation in the media space of Russian mass media. It is based on the opposition "center – non- centre": designation of Russian / foreign space; actualization of the peculiarities of the subject's presence in a given territory and events; indication of an indefinite distance from the conventional center; processes of multidirectional movement (to and from the center); nomination of the subject according to the type of activity, occupation, social parameters and corresponding objects and attributes; characteristics of the territory; indication of processes of social exclusion; opposition to the center.
Key words: media image, non-central territory, opposition, synonymous series, discursive features.
