Abstract: the article deals with the comment as a special type of the British mass-media. Tendencies in the basic characteristics changes of the traditional comment under the influence of media culture have been described by the author in terms of formal organization, functions, and intertextual nature. The author concludes that there exists a close connection between the text characteristics of the comments and the information culture of the modern British society.
