Abstract: the article deals with the verbs, denoting the concepts «to baptize», «to fast», «to believe», etc. The author considers the origin of the verbs, their semantics in the Old Russian language and in the chronicle text. Some verbs express the religious concepts in their direct meanings while others acquire this ability by means of semantic modulation.
