Abstract. The paper attempts to review the adjectives as a part of dialect speakers' lexicon. The author reveals the composition of lexical and semantic groups (LSGs) of adjectives that make part of nuclear and peripheral zones of adjectival subfield of functional and semantic field of lexicon of residents living in settlements with mixed population in Volgograd region. The author shows the heterogeneity of nuclear and peripheral zones of the field and reveals the differences between the adjective groups attributed to the actual kernel, co-nuclear area, near and far periphery. The analysis of LSGs as research units is carried out according to the four criteria (syntagmatic, paradigmatic, epidigmatic and functional). It allows determining the component composition of each segment of the field. The author characterizes adjectives which constitute the lexicon of dialect speakers and are included into various lexical and semantic groups, from the standpoint of their inflectional and derivational relations, abilities of combination, formal semantic links, taking into account the regularity, specialization and frequency of use as well as the stylistic coloring. The article demonstrates the content of elements of different languages and dialects in the lexicon of dialect speakers living in settlements with mixed population. It is revealed that in the nuclear zone there are lexical and semantic groups of adjectives expressing the meaning of features in correlation to the perception of the world, substances and materials, social and public sphere, kin and family relations, universal concepts, meanings and relationships, a person as a living being, a person and their inner world. The co-nuclear area comprises the groups of adjectives expressing the features which correlate to wildlife and nations. The near periphery includes the LSGs of adjectives representing the features of inanimate nature, settlements, the social sphere of human life. The area of far periphery includes LSGs of adjectives representing the features correlated with language and speech, as well as the specific physical activity.
