Abstract. The author studies the notion of polygenetic intertextuality at the formal and semantic levels of a text. It is shown that at the formal level polygenetic intertextuality serves as the main criterion of genre categorization of texts in the semiotic space as each reproduced text should comply with the formal structure of already produced texts. At the semantic level the polygenetic intertextuality is formed by means of intertextual inclusions referring to some prototexts of verbal or non-verbal origin and leads to the semantic development of the text.

Key words: polygenetic intertextuality, prototext, text-recipient, formal level of text, semantic level of text, semiotic space.
