Abstract: the paper deals with the analysis of author's travel guide's text as a modern genre of "travel literature". Its precedent phenomena, rules of formal communication considered and basic linguistic and cultural concepts interpreted are considered as a 'system of passwords' for entering the space of foreign culture.
