Abstract: the article describes demythologization of the mythological concept "fairy" as a process of coexistence of mythological and non-mythological attributes in the concept. The referents belonging to the peripheral areas of the mythological concept are characterized by predominance of socially significant attributes. The process of demythologization has a vivid verbal explication within English folk tale discourse.
Key words: demythologization, mythological concept, cognitive attribute, folk tale discourse, mythological consciousness.
