Abstract: the article analyzes the material of texts of arbitral awards in four subjects of the Russian Federation and thus determines actual tendencies of functioning of the singular and plural forms of a Russian noun penya – peni (fine – fines) in the texts of the jurisdictional substyle of the official style. Then nature of conditionality of strategies of a variation in arbitral awards texts of forms of number of the noun penya – peni by its semantics, and also genre and style specificity of an arbitral award, and, in particular, the author's aspiration to uniformity and accuracy of a thought expression is established.
