Abstract: the article is devoted to the investigation of formal language of verbal communication. The selection of phonostylistic characteristics of the sounding text of a formal telephone conversation was done on suprasegmental level taking into consideration all semantic context of the text. A variety of peculiarities of formal communication was revealed: cliches, invasion of spoken language units.
