Abstract: the article covers some phraseological units in the American election discourse. It reveals the goals set by politicians when using them, marks the linguistic manipulation tactics where phraseological units are highly used. A new type of non-standard phraseological unit transformation and a phraseological unit of a narrow use are outlined.
