Abstract: the article deals with the development of the Russian literary language presented as dynamic processes in regional toponymic system mirrored in the texts published in uezd and oblast newspapers in various synchronic periods from the end of the 19th till begg. of the 21st cen. and in oral speech of dialect speakers. The author demonstrates new approach to description of lexical units which nominate geographical objects that is based on modeling functional and semantic field of toponyms in the regional dialect.
