Abstract. The purpose of the article is to analyze the verbal vocabulary of the first written document of the ancient Slavic script, the Kievan Glagolitic missal (KGM), and compare it with the text of the alleged source in Latin. The history of the acquisition and study of the text of the document is considered. The role of Professor S.P. Lopushanskaya in the study of the KGM text is considered. The main text-forming part of speech is the verb. The verbal vocabulary is contained in all 10 masses describing events related to the actions of the Lord and the people praying. The forms of the imperative of the 2nd person are frequent (33 % of all verbal forms), as is the perfect in the same person (all forms refer to the actions of the Lord). Verb forms are an adequate translation of the corresponding Latin units, while Slavic words have a sacred meaning. The KGM shows the peculiarities of the linguistic culture of the Slavs of the 10th – 11th centuries, their introduction to Christianity, and the influence of Latin on the formation of the liturgical language of Western Slavs. The prospects of the research are the study of participial forms and their role in the memorial missal text.
