Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of synchronous-diachronic study of linguistic subsystems, the methodology of which is being developed by representatives of the scientific school of Professor S.P. Lopushanskaya, Saratov derivatologists. The verb subsystem naturally becomes the main object of study in their research, both in lexico-grammatical and semantic-word-formation aspects, since it is one of the most functionally complex. The article outlines the possibilities of using the synchronous-diachronic method in describing various verbal semantic and word-formation subsystems (word-formation categories, word-formation clusters of verbs) and word-formation processes (intra-verbal prefixal word production, reduplication, suffixal formation of verbal neologisms). The confixal derivatives are viewed as correlative with prefixes; that these models might be in relationship of interaction and competition; that, starting from the Old Russian period of language development, a number of regular confixal models have been formed, such as za-...-e-, za-...-i-, za-...-sja. According to the data of dictionaries of neologisms, in the Russian language of the turn of the millennium, confixation is becoming an increasingly active and regular word-formation process in the field of verbal word production.

Key words: derivatology, synchronous-diachronic method, verb lexical subsystem, word-formation process, prefixation, confixation, neologization, Russian verbal vocabulary.
