Abstract. The article analyzes the structural and functional features of Old Russian syntactic constructions with a nominal active participle connected to a verb by coordinating conjunctions. The relevance of the study is explained by their active use throughout the development of the Old Russian language, as well as by acute contradictions in the interpretation of their originality. The study focuses on structural peculiarities of the specified phrases and aims to identify the dynamics of their use, genre and stylistic reference. Based on a systematic approach using comparative-and-historical as well as comparative-and-typological methods, it was established that the conjunction between the participle and verbum finitum is a marker of high predicativity of the Old Russian participle. Other interpretations are determined either by an asystemic approach to the studied syntactic construction, or by attributing the properties of modern adverbial participles to the Old Russian material, or the functional identification of the participle with the verb. The structural diversity of these clauses is analyzed taking into account the grammatical semantics of the conjunctions. The research highlights the dynamics of functioning demonstrated by the clauses under study. It is reflected in Old Russian literary texts of the 11th – 17th centuries taking into consideration their genre and stylistic reference. The reasons for the loss of such phrases are determined, including functional deterioration of nominal active participles in the process of their transformation into adverbial participles, as well as the development of hypotaxis in the Old Russian language.

Key words: participle, coordinating conjunction, hypotactic structures, paratactic constructions, aorist, imperfect, perfect, secondary predicate.
